God’s nature, if truly loving, should not drive us to unbelief and despair. God’s ways should draw us closer as do the ways of a loving parent. God much prefers friends than mindless, obligated worshippers. God’s friendship doesn’t give us the license to sin but the empowerment to love others as we want to be loved. I am convinced you will not regret pursuing more of a connection with your Creator than regretting having a closer relationship with your partner, children, or friends. I believe you will discover God isn’t a representation of your earthly parents but the perfection of the human parents you always desired.
